The most crucial difference between a Bike Shop and an online retailer is we can work on your actual bike, advise what will fit and work, and if needed, install it for you. From normal wear and tear, brake and gear adjustments or full custom builds and restoration we can handle the lot.

We also offer basic suspension services in house, or use our specialist providers for those more involved tasks. Frame bearings and bushings can be replaced in-house, advice on basic suspension setup can be given. Certain aspects of Dropper post can also be done in house.

Wheels are also trued and spokes fixed in-house. Rim swaps and custom builds can be catered for, with a range of options available.

How to Book a bike in for Work

We have a two-stream system for bicycle repairs and services:

Option 1 - Book your bike in a specific day

Choose a day that suits you, and book your bike in for repair. The bike must be with us by 1000 hrs on the morning of booking, preferably the night before.

We will work on the bike on that day, and aim to have it completed for the end of the working day. However, parts availability will have an impact on this, and if any specific parts are needed this could cause delays. If needed we will order any parts known to be required in advance of the bike coming in to the store. We will keep you informed of any developments by phone or WhatsApp throughout the repair.

We have 4 slots a week available for this service. We do not schedule work for a Saturday.

Option 2 – Walk in

Visit our store during opening hours, and we will book your bike in for repair. It will join in the queue of repairs and we will provide you an estimate on when we can have the bike back to you. However, this is only an estimate and can be inaccurate. If you bike requires a part that we do not have in stock, it will be placed on hold until the part arrives, and work will resume again. The bike will not have to go through the queue again. If needed we will order any parts known to be required in advance, however sometimes things are only discovered when the bike is being worked on. We will keep you informed of any developments by phone or WhatsApp throughout the repair.

We will always try to give an estimate of the cost before we start, and unless pre agreed, contact you with the costs of the parts required. However, as many issues and jobs can only be diagnosed once the work has begun, the estimate may need to be refreshed as progress is made.

Bike Fitting and Comfort

We know how much difference a comfortable bike can make to a rider. Not only can you go further, longer and harder, you'll be much happier to do it again.

Simon runs bike fits for the store and we can accommodate you on a Saturday (0930 - 1700). Just call and we will book you in.

Most Bike Fits take about 1 hr, and are performed on one of our static trainers, with your bike and are focused on primarily comfort. The majority of the fit is done by eye and experience, although we do have a selection of technology to deploy if required.

We also have a selection of saddles from Prologo, Selle Italia and Ergon (amongst others), as well as saddle fit measuring equipment ("MyOwn" by Prologo and "idmatch" by Selle Italia) to help you find the right perch for you posterior.

Repairs can vary massively between bikes, depending on the age and condition, the level of usage and even the nuances of the manufactures designs. Below is a guide to give you an idea of a jobs cost upfront.

If you want a full quote before we start, we will sort one for you breaking it into Parts and Labour, as well as what is seen as a vital/safety critical job, and those that can wait a little bit longer.

A guide to the process from ACT

When a cycle has been left for repair, at any time after the repair has been completed, the retailer can impose an obligation for the owner to collect it. This is normally done in writing and either hand delivered or sent by Recorded Delivery. Sufficient details of the repair and invoice should be included, the address where the goods are being held and a specific date by which it should be paid for and collected. If storage charges have been accumulating, a total for this should also be included. At this stage, it is possible to state that if the goods are not collected within the specified time, then they will be put up for sale to defray the costs. The time allowed should be ‘reasonable' - around four weeks as a rule of thumb.

Customer cannot be contacted

If the current address is not known, there is only one course of action left. A notice giving details of your intention, as per the above paragraph can be posted in your own window or put into the personal column of the local paper.

A longer time for recovery should be allowed in this instance. It is very important that you keep a record of the steps taken to try and contact the customer. In the case of a dispute arising at a later date, this information will be invaluable if the case ever went to court.

Selling the Goods

Once the notice has been displayed, or the letter delivered, and the specified date has elapsed, the goods can be offered for sale. Try and ascertain that the goods do belong to the customer and are not subject to a credit agreement. You are morally bound to try and obtain the best price at the current market value. Again, it is important to keep a record of the price obtained and the buyer's details. You must also record details of the original repair cost, any further work that was required before sale as your costs, then this should be deducted from the price and any balance due to the customer identified. All these records must be kept for the statutory period of 6 years.

Selling the Goods

Once a repair is made, we will contact you. After 2 weeks a storage charge will be accumulated at £2.50 per day. This covers the impact on our ability to operate smoothly.

At 3 months from notification of completion of repair, the items will be listed as 2nd hand and displayed for sale. The price will reflect the market value and our costs.

If we are unable to contact the seller, we will display a notice defining our intention of sale for one week after the completion of the 3 months, then list the item as 2nd hand, and available for sale.

Once the item has been sold and the costs recovered, the customer has the remainder of the original 12-month period from completion to reclaim any balance, minus a 10% admin fee. After this period the balance will be absorbed as administration costs to the business.

Records will be held electronically by the Green Machine Bike Shop Limited for a period not less than 6 years.

What Guarantee and Warranty do we give?

We pride ourselves on our Workshop, and the continual investment in new tools, technologies and training. Whilst we try to get everything 100% right, a 100% of the time, we accept that we will on occasion fall short.

Sometimes this will be due to natural settling of components, or the fact that the work-stand doesn't always reflect a ride. Sometime we will have just "Erred", and for this reason all our labour is guaranteed for 30 days from collection. Just come back and we'll remedy the situation as quickly as we can, and on the spot if possible.

All of our parts and components are supplied via the UK distributors, and come with the full manufactures warranty, and we will process any claims on your behalf. With the advances in technology, this may mean we need to run diagnostics, record log files and take videos of the fault, so please bare with us as we go through the process.
